Dolgesheimer Mord : der Tod des Juden Julius Frank im Frühjahr 1933 : eine Annäherung

2002

Examines the cause of death of a Jewish resident of Dolgesheim in the region of Rheinhessen, who was found suspended in a barn on 7 March 1933. A local NSDAP party had been founded in Dolgesheim in March 1930. Julius Frank, born in 1911 in Dolgesheim, became the leader of the local social-democratic "Reichsbanner" group, founded as a reaction in April 1930. There were fights between these two organizations, which led to accusations and imprisonments. The Frank family moved, maybe fled, to Worms in August 1930. On 6 March 1933 four Nazi members from Dolgesheim arrived at Frank's home in Worms, attacked him physically, and took him back to Dolgesheim, where he presumably was murdered. Mentions the indifference of residents who witnessed the attack on Frank and not only did not intervene, but also concealed the event from authorities. At a trial in 1949, due to lack of evidence, the district court in Mainz decided that Frank had committed suicide, and the suspected murderers were released. Notes that 80% of Dolgesheim's residents had voted for the Nazi party in March 1933. 2. erw. und korr. Aufl. 157 pages : illustrations ; 21 cm
