First U.S. army captures I.G. Farben plant. The first American soldiers to arrive at the I.G. Farben plant at Leuna, on the outskirts of Leipzig, talk with the manager, dr. christian Schneider (light coat), and dr. William Hahn (black coat), the factory's chemist and patent expert. These men were taken with the I.G. Farben plant, the largest synthetic sil factory in Germany, at First U.S. Army troops battled their way to Leipzig, captured April 19, 1945. Even though the plant had been constantly under Allied air attack, it was still able to procude oil before it was seized by the Americans.
