Oberg, gen. Karl Albrecht. Nazi 'Butcher of Paris' captured. SS General karl Albrecht Oberg (right), known as the 'Butcher of Paris' because of his activities as Nazi police leader in France, is shown with U.S. Major Cecil Simmons, who captured him May 26, 1945, in the mountains near Kitzbhuhel, Austria. Oberg, disguised as a private in the Austrian Army, was recognized by Major Simmons, who remembered his peculiar egge-shaped head. The Nazi organized the German office which dealt with resistance movements in France, and he conferred frequently with Abeth, Doriot and Laval. He blames Stulpnagel, his immediate superior, for the many executions he carried out in Paris. When captured, his hideout contained a hoard of food sufficient to last for two years.
