Bremen submarine shipyard bombed. An American soldier and sailor guard two sections of a submarine -- the stern and one of the mid-section -- in the blasted Deshimag submarine shipyards at Bremen, Germany, bombed out of commision by Allied planes March 14, 1945. The sailot is Seaman Robert J. Mcmahon of Elmhurst, Long Island, and the soldier is private James C. Sanders of Grothersville, Indiana. The Deshimag shipyard was the second largest in Germany and produced one submary every two and a half weeks. Two minimize the effect of Allied bombings, the submarines were constructed in eight sections in various parts of Germany. The completed sections were brought to this yard where 18,000 workers assembled them. Bremen was captured by Allied ground forces April 28, 1945.
