U.S. troops uncover new atrocities near Gardelegen. These are some of the bodies of Polish, Russian and Jewish prisoners who were murdered in cold blood by the Nazis in the vicinity of Estedt, Germany, while being marched toward the notorious concentration camp at Gardelegen four miles to the south. During the march, some of the prisoners escaped from their guards. Farmers in the area turned them over to German auhorities, who took them to a remote spot, dug mass graves and shot them. The U.S. Military Government ordered local civilians to exhume the bodies and provide decent burial.
