The rise and fall of the Nazi State. Part I: The growth of the Nazi Party. Weapons are distributed to party members for Munich "Putsch". Guns and other weapons are distributed to Hitler's followers and members of the party in Munich in proparation for an attempt at armed overthrow of the government on May 1, 1923. This first Putsch was unsuccesful because the party men were disarmed by troops of the German Army. A second attempt to overthrow the government six months later, known as the "Beer Hall Putsch", although better organized, was also a failure. This later Putsch of November 9, 1923, characterized by the kidnapping of Munich's chief officials at an anti-Communist rally, resulted in a trial, on charges of high treason, of the ringleaders of the attempt at which Hitler was sentenced to five years imprisonment. Most of the sentences imposed on other party leaders were extremely light and Hitler himself served less than one year of his sentence.( vonnis was 5 jaar, hij zat 13 maanden)
